MANAGERS, PRODUCERS, AGENTS, CLUB OWNERS,:

WHAT THE ARTIST SHOULD KNOW!

1) Whether an artist is seeking management for T.V., Radio, Recording, Modeling etc, The artist must know what a manager does, doesn't do, may or may not do, what a manager is obliged to do and what he is not liable for, whether he or she wants to manage themselves or if they are seeking management YOU MUST KNOW THIS !.

2) Starworks Productions recommends that even though a manager's responsibility is to educate and council the artist about their business, the artist should study up on the business to verify, the management's council, for the benefit of the artist, in case the artist wishes to seek other council in the future or wishes to embark on self managerial ship.

3) Though it is true that an artist should be able to trust the manager, it would be foolish for the artist, to take anyone at their word, if after the artist verifies the manager's claims and they prove to be more than 90% correct, then the artist can be sure that they have someone in whom they can trust.

4) A manager is not obligated to pay for artist expenses, unless manager, agrees to pay, then the artist must repay manager the expenses incurred, in addition to the fee, artist agrees to pay manager.

5) A manager is required to council, and teach their artist, everything they need to know about the business, including the nature of contracts, etc.

6) A manager should remain in constant contact with their artist, but a manager is not required to travel, everywhere the artist goes. If Artist requires the Manager to travel with the Artist, the artist must pay all of the expenses of the manager. Including meals, hotel accommodations, etc unless otherwise specified in a contract).

7) All managerial/artist contracts are not the same, though there are some standard business practices, contracts may not state them. Read a contract carefully before signing it, and show it to a qualified Entertainment Attorney only.

8) Managers are required to keep accounting books and receipts of all expenses, to which artists has spent, or manager has spent, and these books, can and will be checked by artist upon request with ample prior notice given to manager. Artist must also keep accounting books and receipts for manager to compare to his accounting books.

9) A manager is not required to find work for artist, but is required to find a booking agent, once artist is capable of being paid for his/her performances.
